Job Description

 

The Aircraft Mechanic will inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, aircraft engines and related components and systems in accordance with F. A. A. regulations and manufacturer’s published procedures. The Aircraft Mechanic is personally responsible for the safety and airworthiness of all Sheriff’s office aircrafts. The position is one of high responsibility for life and property.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

The Aircraft Mechanic inspects, repairs and maintains Unit aircraft in accordance with F. A. A. regulations and within guidelines specified by the aircraft’s manufacturer.

At the direction of the Aviation Unit officer in charge, the Aircraft Mechanic will act as a flight crewmember, assuming the duties of observer, and the Aircraft Mechanic will respond, on-call, for maintenance problems.

The Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for maintaining F. A. A. required maintenance records including aircraft logbooks, current manuals and bulletins issued; recording and submitting warranty claims; reading and interpreting manufacturer’s service bulletins and F. A. A. issued Directives and implementing required repairs as specified.

Formulating required parts inventory and maintaining that inventory; shipping and receiving of parts and supplies; arranging contractor provided aircraft, engine and avionics repairs as required.

Re-fueling of aircraft as required; Arranging facility maintenance; handling and using harmful chemicals when required as specified in maintenance procedures; working and moving about running aircraft and maintaining a current working knowledge of aircraft specific subsystems including power plant, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems and sheet metal repair techniques.

Job Requirements

 
Minimum requirements for this position include:
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant License, 18 months practical working experience, valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days once hired.
  • Candidates who possess Bell OH-58 and/or Bell 206 experience and possess IA certificate are preferred.
