Job Description
Hawaii Helicopters is looking to fill the Chief Pilot position.
The Chief Pilot reports directly to the Director of Operations. The Chief Pilot manages all functions related to the hiring, training, scheduling, and management of flight crews. This position is also responsible for developing flight standards and monitoring for compliance. The Chief Pilot maintains and updates the FAA approved training program and all required flight publications as needed.

Job Requirements

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Manage and supervise all airmen, check airmen and flight instructors.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance with all flight operations and pilot training.
    • Effective flight development and standardization of training.
    • Team development and mentorship.
    • Monitor work life balance with Pilot flight and duty times.Meeting company objectives and creating a positive work environment.
    • Responsible for ascertaining and assuring that pilots conduct all flights at all times in accordance with the provisions of the GOM and current FARs.Scheduling training and check rides.
    • Conduct weekly Pilot Supervisor meetings.
  • Perform the duties of Company Check Airman (FAR 135 Check Rides) for all company pilots.
  • Coordinate with the FAA concerning company training and flight operations.Communicate and work effectively with all company departments and managers.
  • Maintain flight proficiency in all company aircraft and equipment.
  • Fly tours at each base on a scheduled basis.Ensure flight publication, including aircraft Flight Manuals are up to date.
  • Respond to pilot complaints, safety concerns, Pilot Supervisor issues, and work with all departments with regards to flight safety.
  • Conduct frequent formal Video Reviews as well as spot checks on a regular basis.
  • Administrative responsibilities for the pilot staff to include recruitment, training, reviews, scheduling, time off requests, and compensation adjustments.
  • Dissemination of all pertinent safety, flight, and company information in a timely manner.
  • Monitor Health and Usage Systems for all company aircraft.
  • Implement the appropriate flight policies and procedures in coordination with the SMS (Safety Management System) process.
  • The FAA records keeper maintaining all Pilot proficiency records, training records and load manifest information.
  • The Chief Pilot shall be assigned by the Director of Operations duties and authorities as specified in the “General Operations Manual.”

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the Flight Operations department.
Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • College degree preferred.
  • CFI rating in rotorcraft
  • Minimum 1,000 flight hours rotorcraft
  • All other applicable minimum requirements for the position as outlined in FAR Part 119.
  • Previous experience maintaining and updating required manuals as needed.
  • Proven successful leadership and employee development experience.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations, personalities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, cross-functional projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of PRIA requirements and record keeping.
  • 4 years of successful experience working compliantly within the FAA/FAR.2-5 years management experience.

Computer Skills
Advanced with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
FAA Commercial-Instrument and CFI rating in rotorcraft.Class I or II medical certificate.

Work Location
This position shall reside at the Maui corporate headquarters and will support all Hawaii Helicopters LLC. base locations.
