Job Description
The Chief, Helicopter Maintenance position receives administrative supervision from the Captain in charge of the Sheriff Department’s Aero Bureau.  The Chief, Helicopter Maintenance serves as the highest level of maintenance management and technical review to helicopter mechanics, helicopter maintenance inspectors, and other air operations support staff. Incumbents are responsible for the maintenance of all technical records, manuals, parts and supplies, support equipment, and coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration on all required aircraft inspections.

REQUIREMENTS: 
Option I: One year of experience supervising a crew of helicopter mechanics at the level of a Supervising Helicopter Mechanic.  
 
- OR - 
 
Option II: Two years of experience providing technical guidance to a crew of Helicopter Mechanics at the level of a Senior Helicopter Mechanic or inspecting maintenance performed on airframes, engines, and other components of aircraft to ensure compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s regulations and manufacturers’ maintenance manuals and directives at the level of a Helicopter Maintenance Inspector.   

LICENSES
A valid Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.

A valid Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.

A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. Candidates offered these positions would be required to show proof of a driver license prior to appointment.  Out-of-state applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing. Out-of-state applicants will be required to obtain a California class C Driver License prior to appointment.
