Police Department is currently recruiting for an Aviation
Mechanic is a journey-level classification in the Air Support Unit of the
Police Department. The incumbent performs mechanical repairs and maintenance on
rotary and fixed-wing aircraft and related equipment in accordance with Federal
Aviation Administration rules and regulations, aircraft manufacturer’s guidelines,
and department policies and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for developing
and maintaining progressive records of inspections, repairs, maintenance logs
and manuals; and performing and signing off annual inspections and required Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) modifications. The incumbent will be required to
work any shift to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
These are entrance requirements to the competitive
examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list.Applicants must meet the minimum
qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify.
TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have:
Education and Experience:
a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Two (2) years
of airframe and power plant work experience in turbine helicopter maintenance,
repair, troubleshooting, and inspections.
Possession of a
current and valid Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Power Plant
Mechanic license is required at time of application and must be maintained for the entire term
of employment in this classification (must meet the recent experience
requirements of FAR 65.83).(Must attach

Possession of a
valid Class “C” California Driver's License is required at time of appointment, and must be maintained for the entire term
of employment in this classification.
Possession of a valid Commercial Class
“B” California driver’s license with airbrake and hazardous material
endorsements may be required.
Possession of a current and valid
Federal Aviation Administration Inspection Authorization Certificate (IA) must
be obtained within 24 months of appointment.
Successfully complete a polygraph
exam and an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.
